Thomas Nast's engraving pairs the toasting song "For he's a jolly good fellow" with a Christmas scene, and its caption card links it to Santa Claus and music. It appeared as an illustration in *Christmas Drawings for the Human Race*, a collection of Nast's holiday drawings dated to about 1889. Nast, a German-born cartoonist known for his work in *Harper's Weekly*, helped shape the modern image of Santa Claus, so his holiday pieces are useful for seeing how sentiment and humor mixed in popular Christmas art. The date and subject tags come from an unverified caption card, so treat them as provisional.
