Holiday greeting cards from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries often carried the sentiment of the season in bright chromolithographed color, with robins, snow-dusted villages, and children in winter dress as favorite motifs. Cards like this one were sent by mail or handed out at gatherings, and their rise tracked cheaper color printing and the growing custom of sending seasonal wishes to friends and relatives who lived far away. Because the record names only the broad occasion, the card is best read as an example of that wider tradition, where small printed images carried a message of goodwill from one household to another.
