The title on this glass negative reads "Billy Dove," a name the record flags as unverified and taken from Bain News Service data or caption cards. The best-known performer with a similar name was the silent-film actress usually spelled Billie Dove, who became a star in the 1920s, so the spelling here may be a variant or a caption error. Bain News Service, a New York agency, produced news and portrait pictures on glass plates in the early twentieth century, and its collection documents who was photographed for the press. The record gives no date, so the sitting itself remains uncertain.
