The title plays on the old saying about pigs flying, and it hints at the playful side of ballooning. The Montgolfier brothers first carried people aloft in a hot air balloon over Paris in 1783, and the craft soon moved beyond scientific and military uses into public spectacle. From the late twentieth century, novelty balloons shaped like animals and everyday objects became a fixture at festivals, which may be the tradition this scene draws on. It is worth noticing how the lighthearted title sits against the serious engineering of the envelope and basket overhead.
