The only identifying detail for this glass negative is its title, "Where bomb exploded," which the Bain News Service apparently wrote on the negative or its caption card. The record notes that this title is unverified, and the location, date and cause of the blast are not recorded, so the scene has to be read from the image itself. George Grantham Bain founded the agency in New York, and in the early 1900s it sold news photographs to newspapers across the country, including pictures of accidents, crimes and disasters taken soon after they happened. Glass negatives like this one preserve fine detail and offer a window into how press photographers documented the news of that era.
