This still life sells a facial soap with a carefully arranged tabletop rather than a face, which sets it apart from the many portrait-style ads of its day. Woodbury's was a widely advertised complexion soap in the 1920s, and its slogan promised a skin worth touching. Margaret Watkins, who trained with the Clarence H. White School of Photography, brought pictorialist polish to commercial work, and this print shows the shift from soft, painterly effects toward the crisp, precise forms that marked modernist photography later in the decade.
