Children seated in wheelchairs gather around a Christmas tree in this scene, a detail that sets it apart from the usual holiday pictures on this board. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio active in the early twentieth century, made the negative sometime between 1910 and 1935, and its collection later reached the Library of Congress as a gift. Holiday gatherings at hospitals and children's institutions were common in this era, when wheelchairs were a familiar sight in such settings. The record does not name the location, so the exact setting remains unknown.
