Kermit Roosevelt, the second son of President Theodore Roosevelt, stands full length beside his wife, Belle Willard Roosevelt, in this 1928 portrait. The couple married in 1914, and Kermit had earlier accompanied his father on the 1909 African expedition and the 1913-1914 journey down the River of Doubt in Brazil. The print comes from the Bain Collection, the news photo files of the Bain News Service in New York, which recorded public figures for newspapers and magazines. Its May 26, 1928, date places the couple in the years when the Roosevelt name was still steadily in the national news.
