The only identifying detail here is the surname "Kremer," which the Library of Congress lists as an unverified title taken from Bain News Service negatives or caption cards, so the subject's identity and the occasion remain uncertain. The George Grantham Bain Collection holds some 40,000 glass negatives made by a New York press photography agency that supplied newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century. Because the agency worked quickly on news assignments, many of its portraits and scenes were captioned loosely, and researchers often have to match the image against newspaper archives to confirm who appears in it.
