This glass negative pairs the Italian baritone Pasquale Amato with Mrs. F.C. Coppicus, whose name ties the portrait to the New York concert management firm of F.C. Coppicus. Amato was one of the leading baritones at the Metropolitan Opera in the 1910s, and portraits like this were often made to publicize singers and the managers who booked them. The Bain News Service, which produced and sold press photographs, gathered images like this from the early twentieth century onward. The caption data is unverified, so the exact occasion and date remain uncertain.
