Few posters of the period name a labor leader as directly as this one, whose slogans, "Viva Chávez, viva la causa, viva la huelga," salute César Chávez and the cause and strike he led. Chávez organized farmworkers in California, and the grape strike that began in Delano in 1965 brought the struggle of migrant agricultural laborers to national attention. Issued by Darien House in New York around 1968, this color lithograph carries a painting by Paul Davis, and its bold colors and Spanish-language slogans show how supporters of the movement used posters as a rallying tool well beyond the fields.
