Few cartoons from 1951 pair two cabinet officials this directly. This one names Dean Acheson, then Secretary of State, and George C. Marshall, then Secretary of Defense, with the Korean War and the bombing of Korean targets as its backdrop. Published by the McNaught Syndicate on May 21, 1951, it appeared as Congress was questioning both men about President Truman's dismissal of General Douglas MacArthur. The drawing also reflects the wider Cold War anxiety of the decade, when Americans argued over how far the fight in Korea should go and whether their leaders were handling it well.
