The Statue of Liberty, immigrants, and a ship's deck come together in this 1917 lithograph, linking the purchase of a government bond to the promise that drew millions to America. It was printed in New York by Sackett & Wilhelms for the Second Liberty Loan, the Treasury's autumn 1917 drive to pay for the country's entry into World War I that April. Campaigns like this one sold Liberty Bonds to ordinary citizens and workers, and posters were a main tool for reaching people who had never owned a security.
