Honey Grove, the seat of a farming district in Fannin County in northeast Texas, was a railroad and cotton trading town in 1885. The rail line that reached the town in the early 1870s gave local farmers a way to ship their crops to larger markets. Gins, grain dealers, and merchants built their businesses around that trade, and the surrounding fields set the rhythm of the year. Churches, schools, and stores around the central square shaped daily civic and social life, and residents would have known the town as a busy stop for farm families coming in to trade. Its fortunes still rose and fell with the weather and the price of cotton.

| Notes | An original bird's-eye view map of Honey Grove, Texas, drawn in 1885. Bird's-eye view maps were drawn by travelling artists who walked a town street by street, sketching every building from an imagined vantage point in the air, then sold the finished lithograph door to door by subscription. Roughly five thousand American towns were recorded this way between the 1860s and the 1920s, and for many of them the panoramic map is the most complete picture of the place that survives. Reproduced from the original in the Library of Congress collections. Printed to order on archival paper. Free shipping on all US orders. |
