Few posters from the 1930s promise a midnight show quite like this one, which advertises a single performance at 11:15 p.m. at the Oriel theater in Glencoe on Tuesday, May 14. Mel Roy's bill promises skulls, slate writing, a spirit table, and ghosts raised from the dead, and a printed warning tells audiences the show is not recommended for children under 12. Spook shows of this kind drew on a long public fascination with seances and stage illusion, and the Chicago firm Triangle Poster & Printing Co. produced this multicolor lithograph to make the late-night thrill hard to miss.
