This color lithograph, titled in French "Gare Américaine a Maryland," shows an American railway station in Maryland as seen through a French publisher's eyes. It was issued by Imagerie d'Épinal, the firm in Épinal in northeastern France known for inexpensive colored sheets of pictures and educational images sold to families and schools. The record dates it loosely, between 1870 and 1920, and classes it as a building model, so it may be a simplified illustration rather than a view drawn from life. It is worth noticing how a European popular print presented American rail travel to its readers.
