The title, "She Gets the Kiss," sets this stereograph apart from the many scenic views of Niagara Falls that its publisher, M.H. Zahner, also sold. Its 1898 date places it in the peak years of stereocards, when households bought them by the box and viewed them through hand-held stereoscopes to see a scene in three dimensions. Genre scenes like this one, with a sentimental or playful story told in a single frame, were a popular counterpart to landscape views. The card's wording invites the viewer to supply the narrative, which is part of its appeal today.
