Few posters of the period state their purpose as plainly as this one. Its title, "Don't Wait for the Draft," urges men to enlist before conscription decides for them. It was issued around 1917, after the United States entered the First World War in April, and it is Poster No. 3 in a series by the Associated Motion Picture Advertisers. The Selective Service Act of May 1917 made registration compulsory soon after, so the appeal captures a brief moment when volunteering and the draft were both live options.
