Titled simply "Easter," this picture points to the holiday itself rather than a particular place or person. Christians mark Easter as the commemoration of Jesus's resurrection, and the date shifts from year to year because it falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the March equinox. In the United States, the holiday also grew into a family occasion built around spring clothing, church services, egg decorating, and, for children, egg hunts and candy. Pictures of Easter from that era often focus on these everyday rituals as much as on the religious observance.
