The caption names a Chas. F. Johnson, but the Library of Congress notes that the title comes from unverified data the Bain News Service wrote on its negatives or caption cards, so the identity should be treated as provisional. The plate is dated December 29, 1910, just days before the new year, when the agency was supplying newspapers with pictures of people and events. Bain's company worked largely in glass plates at that time, and its files preserve a broad record of early twentieth-century news, which makes individual items like this one useful for tracing who was photographed and when.
