A lattice windmill rises above brick buildings and tall trees, a scene where working machinery sat close to everyday town life. Wind-driven pumps like this were a common way to draw well water in the late 1800s and early 1900s, filling tanks for farms, homes, livestock and small waterworks. The tower's rotating wheel drove a pump rod below, so such a mill was often the main source of running water on a site. Worth noticing is the contrast between the open steel frame and the solid masonry beside it, two building traditions side by side.
