Golden wheat or grain stubble stretches across the foreground of this scene, with a small blue tractor working far off at the edge of the field. The contrast between the warm, cut field and the cool blue machine draws the eye from one side of the frame to the other. Pictures like this were common in the mid-twentieth century, when mechanized harvesting was replacing horse-drawn equipment across much of rural America and tractors became the defining sight of working farmland. The distance of the tractor also suggests the scale of a single operator managing a large acreage alone.
