Springfield, Ohio, was home to the Lagonda Agricultural Works, a manufacturer of farm machinery, and this lithograph was produced as an advertisement for the company's products. Commercial lithographs like this one were printed in large runs and handed out to farmers, dealers and households, often hung in kitchens and barns as calendars or decorations. The Thanksgiving placement on this board reflects the harvest-season theme that such advertisers favored, tying the company's implements to the bounty of the autumn table. Its bright color and crowded composition show how much visual appeal manufacturers invested in even their most practical marketing.
