Published in Vogue on May 1, 1942, this caricature by Mexican-born artist Miguel Covarrubias takes its title from the Declaration by United Nations, which 26 Allied nations signed in Washington in January 1942, pledging to fight the Axis powers. Covarrubias was a prolific caricaturist for Vogue and Vanity Fair, known for witty, exaggerated portraits of public figures. The drawing was later shown at the Library of Congress in 2004 in the exhibition Churchill and the Great Republic, which examined Winston Churchill's relationship with the United States.
