The only identifying detail for this glass negative is its caption, "Geo. Burns," which the Bain News Service recorded on the plate or an accompanying card, though the record does not confirm who is shown. George Grantham Bain founded the agency in New York around 1899 to supply newspapers with photographs of news, people and places. Its plates, now at the Library of Congress, date mostly from the early twentieth century, but this one has no recorded date, so the name is best treated as an unverified lead rather than a firm identification.
