The only identifying detail for this negative is its title, Dambois, which the Bain News Service took from caption cards and which the Library of Congress lists as unverified. George Grantham Bain's agency, begun in New York around 1900, sold news photographs to newspapers and magazines, and its glass plates from the early twentieth century cover events, portraits and places across the city and beyond. With no date or subject recorded, the title is the main clue, and the plate's small size, 5 by 7 inches or less, matches the portable cameras press photographers relied on at the time.
