In 1908, William Howard Taft was the Republican nominee for president, and this view shows a motorcar in one of the processions held in his honor in New York. The Bain News Service caption places Admiral Coghlan in the rear seat and William B. Franklin in front, though that identification has not been independently verified. Bain's studio produced thousands of glass negatives of city streets and public events in the early twentieth century, so scenes like this one document how campaign parades moved through New York.
