Among the Denver views in the Detroit Publishing Company collection, the Felken Cycle Company interior stands out for showing cash registers and automobiles alongside a bicycle business. The negative was made especially for the National Cash Register Company of Dayton, Ohio, so the view likely served as a promotional picture of its equipment in use. Bicycle dealers were among the first to sell early automobiles, which helps explain why the subjects also include the automobile industry. The Detroit Publishing Company documented American towns and businesses in large-format photographs during this period.
