Connie Mack, the manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, is the figure this record names, and few men shaped early American League baseball as he did. Born Cornelius McGillicuddy, Mack led the Athletics from 1901 to 1950, a half-century at the helm of one club, and he was a part owner for much of that time. Known for managing from the dugout in a suit and tie with a scorecard in hand, he guided the team to nine American League pennants and five World Series championships.
