The name attached to this negative is Claude Weaver of Oklahoma, but the library notes that the title comes from caption data the Bain News Service wrote on the negative or its card, and that this information has not been verified. George Grantham Bain founded the agency in New York in the early 1900s, and it supplied newspapers across the country with news and portrait pictures, so images of people and places far from the East Coast often passed through its files. The archive was built on glass negatives like this one, and those fragile plates are why so many of its pictures still survive.
