A young girl stands with a small American flag in one hand and a bundle of flowers in the other, a pose that turns up often on patriotic greeting cards of the early twentieth century. Cards like this were mass-produced and sent for national holidays such as the Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Armistice Day, when the flag and wildflowers or garden blooms stood for civic loyalty and remembrance.
