A die-cut scrap showing a girl dressed in a cyclamen flower costume, set within the Angels and Fairies group on this board, is a good example of the flower-fairy imagery that was popular in late Victorian and Edwardian decorative printing. Scraps like this were printed in sheets on thin paper or card, then cut out by hand or machine and pasted into albums, greeting cards, and scrapbooks. Children and hobbyists used them to build elaborate collages, and the cyclamen, with its drooping, swept-back petals, was a favorite motif for fairy costumes of the period. The figure's outfit echoes the flower's shape, so the costume itself becomes part of the botanical design.
