This map brings three of the Civil War's pivotal campaigns onto one sheet, charting the battlefields, routes, camps and headquarters of Gettysburg in July 1863, the Wilderness in May 1864, and the final campaign that ended at Appomattox Court House in April 1865. Together they trace the war's arc, from Lee's invasion of the North, turned back at Gettysburg, to the Union's grinding push through Virginia that ended with Lee's surrender to Grant. The marked headquarters are worth a close look, since they show how closely the commanders' decisions shaped each fight.
