The title on this glass negative, "Countess Beauchamp," comes from caption cards and negative data that the Bain News Service recorded, and the record notes that it has not been verified. The Bain News Service was a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its portraits and event pictures often reached print within a day or two of being taken. Because the negative is undated, its exact context is uncertain, but it belongs to a working newspaper archive built for quick publication. Glass plates of this small size were a common format for press work of the period.
