Yumping yiminy, vat a yump!" captures the mock Swedish-American dialect that made Yon Yonson a comic favorite on the stage. Dialect comedy like this was a staple of American vaudeville and touring theater in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when troupes traveled from town to town largely by rail. Their posters were pasted on depot walls and station platforms, which explains the poster's place in the railroad section of this collection. Its bold type shows how theater advertising competed for attention in busy travel settings.
