The only place detail this negative offers is its title, Urban, NY, which the National Photo Company recorded on the glass or its sleeve and which has not been independently confirmed. The 1924 date places it in the years when the company was photographing towns and streets across the country for publication and sale. Herbert A. French gave the 4 by 5 inch plate to the Library of Congress in 1947. Streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of the original coating are visible on the glass and obscure parts of the image.
