This portrait shows Theodore Roosevelt in the early part of his presidency, which began in September 1901 after the assassination of William McKinley and lasted until 1909. The print bears a copyright credit to Clinedinst, the Washington photographer whose studio made many formal portraits of officeholders that circulated widely at the time. Photoprints like this were a common way for Americans to own a likeness of the president. The catalog record draws its identifying details from an unverified caption card, so the c1902 date should be read as approximate.
