Theodore Roosevelt is shown here in a c1904 photoprint, the kind of studio portrait made during his first full term as president, which began in 1901 after the assassination of William McKinley. The print was copyrighted by C.M. Gilbert, a photographer whose work circulated widely in this period as cabinet cards and small prints for public sale. The record notes that its caption information comes from an old card and is unverified, so the exact sitting date and studio details remain uncertain. Still, the image is a useful window onto how Roosevelt was presented to the public at the height of his early fame.
