The only identifying text here is a single word, "Agassiz," which the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its caption card, and the record notes that the title is unverified. The name most often connected to it is the Swiss-born naturalist Louis Agassiz, who taught at Harvard and founded its Museum of Comparative Zoology, though the picture may refer to a place or another person. The Bain agency operated in New York from about 1900 into the 1920s, selling news photographs to newspapers, so this glass negative is best read as a working press picture of its era.
