The title, "Easton with flowers," names a subject called Easton shown with flowers, but the Library of Congress notes that this wording comes from unverified information on the negative or its caption card, so the identity remains uncertain. The picture is a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a New York agency founded around 1899 that supplied photographs of current events, people and places to newspapers. The record gives no date, but the agency was active in the early twentieth century, when such pictures were printed quickly for daily publication. The fragile glass plate itself shows how news photographs were made and handled in that period.
