The title, "What are the findings?", asks what the Supreme Court will decide, and the drawing treats the justices as anxious observers of a currency question. In early 1935 the Court was weighing the gold clause cases, which challenged the government's 1933 move to cancel contract provisions that required repayment in gold. Those disputes went to the heart of the dollar's value after the United States left the gold standard for domestic purposes. Published on February 8, the cartoon came ten days before the Court's ruling, and it shows how closely the public followed a legal question that bore directly on debts, prices and the money in people's pockets.
