Rudolph K. Hynicka is the only identifying detail this glass negative carries, and the Library of Congress lists the name as unverified, taken from caption cards or the plate itself. The Bain News Service that made it was a New York picture agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, so a plate like this was likely made to illustrate a story or filed for later use. The negative, 5 by 7 inches or smaller, belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, which holds tens of thousands of such plates and shows how American newspapers pictured people and events in those years.
