Cupid tipping a bottle of hearts is an unusual twist on the usual winged-archer scene, and the bottle motif is what sets this card apart from the many valentines on the same board. Postcards like this one, marked "Loving Greetings," were mass-produced in the early twentieth century, when printers turned out enormous numbers of sentimental cards for holidays such as Valentine's Day. Senders often chose them as an inexpensive way to express affection, and the playful, slightly whimsical imagery reflects the taste of that era. Worth noticing are the bright chromolithographic colors and the decorative border, which were typical of the period's commercial card printing.
