Eight dancers, six women and two men, pose together at what the caption identifies as a ballet rehearsal in New York City around 1916. The picture came from Bain News Service, a photo agency run by George Grantham Bain that supplied news pictures to newspapers and now belongs to the Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs collection. Ballet was drawing growing attention in New York in these years, particularly after Russian companies brought European styles to American stages, so rehearsal pictures like this one show the working studio behind the polished performances audiences saw. The caption data is unverified, so the dancers' names and the exact venue remain unknown.
