A numbered seal in the Washington collection, this image reproduces an official emblem meant to authenticate documents and identify a government. The United States Great Seal, adopted in 1782, shows a bald eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, while its reverse carries an unfinished pyramid and the Latin motto *Novus Ordo Seclorum*. The record does not say which seal is shown, but the image reflects how such designs were copied and displayed in public life.
