A young girl surrounded by flowers is the focus of this hand-tinted postcard, with color brushed onto a printed or photographic base. Cards like this were popular in the early twentieth century, when postal service made them an inexpensive way to send greetings. Advertisers of the period often used similar pretty, wholesome figures to sell soft drinks, which may explain its place among the Coca-Cola material. Because each card was colored by hand, small differences in shading and brushwork can reveal the work of the individual who tinted it.
