The title names the method directly. Wig-wag was a visual signaling system in which a single flag was waved in set patterns to pass messages across distances too far for the voice, and it was taught to military signalmen in the early twentieth century. This glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the New York news photo agency that supplied pictures to newspapers in those years. The record gives no date or location for the session, and the title comes from the agency's caption information, which is unverified, so the exact occasion remains uncertain.
