De Graff, a village in Logan County, Ohio, was drawn in bird's-eye view in 1875, the year of the national Centennial. Its growth depended on the railroad that ran through it and on the surrounding farms, where corn, wheat, and hogs were the main products shipped out by rail to larger markets. In 1875, local business centered on grain storage near the tracks, small shops, and stores that served farm families who came into town to trade. Churches, a schoolhouse, and the village council shaped daily civic life, and most residents would have known De Graff as a stop on the line rather than a town of wide reputation. The view records its streets, houses, and depot in close detail, showing how the village had grown up around its rail connection.
