An abandoned Case 830 tractor sits in a grassy field, its body left to weather where it stopped working. The Case 830 was a row-crop tractor that J.I. Case & Co. built during the 1950s, a period when many farms replaced horse and mule power with gasoline and diesel machines. Machines like this one were often left behind when farms were consolidated, sold, or simply stopped being worked, so the rusting frame now records a shift in how American land was farmed. Its slow decline in the open grass is worth a closer look.
