First off there's the Spiesgarten in the downtown mall itself -- a better than average collection of fast food stands. Right along the river is John Hawks Pub. A block or so north there's the Wells Street Deli (I think that's the name) and the King and I (Thai) though I don't know if their lunch is any good. Go up 4th and you can get German food at Maders or if you head east across the river at Karl Ratschs. North up Water Street is Brew City BBQ. East on Kilbourn (?) is Szechuan House. That's all I can think of in the immediate downtown area. David Cook

It is on the second floor of a shop that has outstanding crystal, china, etc. An earlier post pointed out two German restaurants in the area, but omitted the best. If you want German food, John Ernst on Ogden is the best in the area. Enjoy.

For lunch in Milwaukee I would hit the KING and I down on Plankinton Street about one block from the Grand Avenue. They have a great buffet there and definitely try the "Volcanoe Chicken." robert b dubrey iv
